TearsTears are the body’s reaction to a significant impact,
exposure, or condition . . . physical, mental, emotional
or spiritual. Physical pain, exhaustion, chemical
exposure, mental anguish, frustration, stress,
emotional empathy, great joy . . . these are some of
the causes of tears.
Tears are a healthy and natural release mechanism,
a way to cleanse, a way to lose a weak composure
in order to gain back a strong and confident
presence, a way to give oneself to another as a
free and open offering of true intimacy.
It has been said that laughing and crying, on a
regular basis, are healthy for one’s well being and
cathartic to the soul. Jimmy Valvano, the great
college basketball coach at NC State said in his
last speech when he knew he was dying of cancer,
“There are three things everyone should do every
day. . . if you laugh, think and cry, that’s a heck of a
day.” When a day possesses moments of laughter,
meditation, creation, cultivation, love and tears,
everything is well within the soul.
Have you taken time to cry today? To cleanse your
body of poisons, your mind of negative thoughts,
your heart of painful feelings, and to nourish and
rejuvenate your soul? Have you cried out with
tears of appreciation for those who care about
you? Have your eyes welled up with tears of love
for those you care about? Have you taken the time
today to cleanse your eyes so you can see who
you are becoming? Are they tears of sorrow or joy?
Regret or thanksgiving?
