the Great CAUSE
Chapter 12
NOW, ONE MORE TIME. YES, YES. I WANT ONE OF YOU TO EXPOUND
MOST ELOQUENTLY, AS AN ACCUSER CONVINCING THE JURY OF
THE ACCUSED'S GUILT...A SUMMARY STATEMENT.
BUILDER! YOU DO IT! HIT IT HARD AND STRAIGHT, STAY IN THE
SHORT GREEN GRASS, AND BRING IT HOME IN THE FEWEST
STROKES!
Builder was surprised both by the golf analogy and that he was Swami's
selection. But it didn't matter, for he was ready. He had been waiting for this opport-
unity to demonstrate that he was much more astute than his friends had credited.
Builder had listened carefully to recent discussions concerning the vitals. He had
studied and absorbed the truths, then memorized the most articulate explanations.
His adrenalin surged as he stood before his peers, assuming his most intellectual
pose, a rather anomalous-looking posture for one dressed in golf attire.
"The first vital is intellect, the ability to reason and to remember with the mind.
This elementary state of consciousness was, for the most part, the exclusive
domain in which we Livings existed. A powerful vital, but really quite limited, even
dangerous by itself, since excessive concentration of one's intellect imposes self
-centeredness and self-glorification, a detriment to other Livings."
"Incredible!" commented Lender. "From one who could scarcely grunt his name
to an orator rivalling the ancient Greek rhetoricians."
Builder moved his head back slightly and peered down his nose at Lender in a
gesture of superiority.
A VERITABLE HOLE-IN-ONE! GO ON, BUILDER. TEE UP THE SECOND
VITAL.
With a deep breath and confidence exuding from his being, Builder
enthusiastically proceeded.
"The second vital is emotion, the ability to feel empathy, concern for others
as well as self, from deep within. This gift is often identified with the heart but
actually resides throughout one's being."
Builder paused as if to wait for his revelations to sink into his students,
then with another deep breath, he continued.
"Rarely did we Livings tap the power of this vital attribute. Only when self
was injured would we reach beyond our mind to apply the salve of emotion to our
own hurt. Never was this salve offered to others in their need, an equally important
intent for this gift."
"Splendid! Bravo!" the other two Livings praised as they applauded the orator.
Builder bowed gracefully, tipping his cap to the audience, then sat again
among his two classmates who had an obvious new respect for their comrade.
Builder felt a euphoria similar to that experienced during the flight to Chosen
Destiny. Except, this was better. The feeling and knowing of accomplishment,
with excellence, flooded Builder's mind, heart and...more.
It was time for Swami to introduce the third vital and to direct the three Livings
to concepts of power and destiny much beyond their knowing.
HAVING DISCOVERED A BALANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO GIFTS HAS
GREATLY STRENGTHENED YOU THREE. YOUR VALUE TO LIVINGKIND
HAS INCREASED IMMEASURABLY. BUT THERE AWAITS A LEVEL OF
UNDERSTANDING THAT FAR EXCEEDS YOUR PRESENT CONDITION.
THIS WILL COME WITH THE REALIZATION OF THE THIRD VITAL WHICH
YOU ARE NOW CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING. ONLY WITH BOTH
EMOTION AND INTELLECT IN DYNAMIC BALANCE CAN THE MOST
PRECIOUS VITAL BE ACCOMMODATED TO ITS FULLEST.
They were intently listening to the mystical utterances of the white-robed prophet.
Here it comes...the revelation...the key to their future destiny. They were most
anxious.
